SUSTAINABLE RURAL SETTLEMENT PROPOSALS |

|
This project involved the creation of an environmentally enabled ‘village extension’ in a highly sensitive ecological area in Dorset to include a new school and sports pitches, community care centre, revitalisation of the village environment, workspace, live/work as well as a mixed housing format. With such high levels of environmental protection throughout the area, the proposed site is one of the few opportunities in the District for meeting development plan requirements. The settlement has become a commuter dormitory to Bournemouth and Poole with 40% of all residents working outside the District. The aim is to provide a highly sustainable scheme adding value to the existing community and including mixed affordable housing, workspace and community development together with improvements to the local environment and extension of local heathland. The project has been put forward within the Local Development Framework process. |
